ST MARY’S RC Church has appealed for specific items to put in its Blackburn Food Bank box.

The Langho-based church has asked for tins of meat and other suitable items, plus the usual sugar, long-life milk and other food items.

Father Leo Heakin, of the York Lane centre said the box is in the church porch for everyone to put the donations in.

The foodbank was founded by a series of churches and community groups to provide food to people who cannot afford to buy enough.

The church is also looking for toys for its annual Salvation Army collection this weekend.

New or good second hand toys and books are welcome for the church collection.

The collection will take place during mass on Saturday, December 16, at 6pm and Sunday, December 17, at 9.30am.
