AN insurance worker is set to swap her life in Langho for a South American adventure as she jets off to help a rural community in Honduras.

Olivia Grimshaw, 24, has joined up with the charity Progressio and will take part in activities such as teaching English lessons and helping to improve the local agriculture system.

The former Ribblesdale High School pupil returned from a two-year trip in New Zealand in April and said that she was keen to go travelling again as soon as she got home.

Olivia will stay in the Spanish-speaking country from January 7 to March 18 and is aiming to raise £800 to help fund the trip.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to the trip and it’s going to be a fantastic experience.

“I love to travel and I’ve never done anything like this before.

“It’s a great cause to be involved in and I hope I make a difference to the community.

“I’m a bit nervous since I won’t be told where exactly I’m going until I get there but I’m sure it will all be fine.

“The work that I will be doing very much depends on what the community that I get sent to want so I could end up doing all sorts for them.

“I’ve volunteered for charity before but I’ve never done anything on this scale before.”

Olivia has already raised £100 through selling knitted corsages and is also organising a children’s art competition in Clitheroe with the Platform gallery.

She has also organised a race night on Friday, November 15, which will take place at No1 Bar in Brockhall Village.

The former Clitheroe Royal Grammar School sixth former said: “In Honduras the focus is within agriculture to create an industry suitable for international trade to enable money for education.

“At the moment the education system is in need of major reform and there is no government funding allocated to education and girls are not encouraged to attend at all.”
