Clitheroe derelict mill site to be transformed into homes

THE transformation of a derelict mill site in Clitheroe to a new residential neighbourhood is now likely to become reality.

House builder Miller Homes has stepped in to speed-up the delivery of a complex regeneration scheme, in the Primrose Mill area of the Ribble Valley market town, that was originally granted planning consent back in 2009 and has been an aspiration of the council since 1991.

Three years ago Beck Homes put forward plans for 160 new homes for the site, which included the former government building and disused industrial land around Woone Lane.

The redevelopment of the mill lodge and adjacent woodland was also included in the scheme.

The brown-field site lies on the edge of the town, between adjacent farmland and the reservoir, covering an area of about six acres.

Michaela Lancaster, Miller Homes sales and marketing director said: “We are delighted to have secured such a prime location in Clitheroe and to be investing in the Ribble Valley area again.

“The new development, to be named Montgomerie Gardens brings something new to the local property market.

“It will offer a range of properties from first time buyer apartments up to four bedroom family homes and will appeal to people who wish to move on to, or up the property ladder and stay close to the town centre.

“It will also attract new residents in to the area to the benefit of the local economy."

Miller Homes anticipates starting work on the infrastructure and the new homes in the summer with sales due to start in autumn.
