RIBBLE Valley MP Nigel Evans has backed a campaign to improve access for people with failing sight to NHS care.

He attended the Westminster reception of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Eye Health and Visual Impairment addressed by blind Clitheroe resident and The Royal National Institute of Blind People fundraiser Michael Tupper.

The reception launched the APPG's report calling on the NHS to prioritise eye health as a matter of urgency.

Mr Evans said: "I am fully supportive of the calls from RNIB to make eye health a priority in the NHS.

"Listening to my Michael Tupper speak was very moving, and I am thankful that his condition is now under control. The rescheduling, delaying and cancellation of appointments due to a lack of capacity for eye care can lead to disastrous results for those with conditions such as glaucoma."
