A 62-YEAR-OLD grandmother who crashed her Range Rover through a hedge and rolled it was later found to be more than three times the drink drive limit.

Blackburn magistrates heard a dog walker watched in horror as Carol Aspinall took a bend in Hurst Green at excessive speed and clearly struggling to keep control.

The vehicle went through a hedge and rolled onto its roof and then back onto its wheels.

Aspinall, 62 of Park Gate Farm, Cow Ark, Clitheroe, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. She was sentenced to eight weeks in prison suspended for 12 months, ordered to pay £85 costs and £125 victim surcharge.

She was banned for 40 months after the court heard she gave a reading in blood of 277 against the legal limit of 81.

Ian Huggan, defending, said his client was thoroughly ashamed and embarrassed by her actions. He said a virus contracted abroad had caused his client anxiety and there were family problems which had caused a build up of emotions.

“That lead to her drinking on November 28,” said Mr Huggan. “She hasn’t had a drink since then because of how she feels about what happened.”
