A DERELICT pub could be converted into a chain takeaway despite opposition from local groups.

Judith Douglas Town Planning Ltd has submitted plans to Ribble Valley Council to convert the former White Horse Inn, on York Street, Clitheroe into a Dominos takeaway.

The applicant wishes to use one of the retail units and apartments on the ground floor, occupying the former bar, kitchen and toilet areas of the pub at the rear of the building.

The proposed takeaway will have opening hours of 9am to 11pm.

A number of households have raised objections to the application because of concerns it would lead to greater noise pollution through late night deliveries and parking in the area.

Clitheroe Town Council also raised an objection because of the loss of a residential apartment from the applicant’s original proposal because they feel there is ‘significant need’ for accommodation in the town.

Cllr Ruth Hargreaves, who represents the area, said: “I have sympathy with the residents if there will be cars whizzing up and down the street late at night.

“I do not think it’s a good idea to open it up and my concern is if we get one takeaway in this area how many other similar businesses will want to do the same in the town.”
