THE skies sparkled in colour as a number of Bonfire events took place across East Lancashire.

Thousands of people visited a number of firework displays which were held in Blackburn, Burnley, Accrington, Clitheroe, Darwen, Haslingden, Colne and Padiham.

Around 6,000 people enjoyed Towneley's annual firework spectacular.

Simon Goff, who has helped to organise the Towneley Park bonfire night for the last five years, said: "The night was great.

"It was raining earlier on in the night but miraculously it stopped just before the main display.

"It was absolutely packed and the main firework display was fantastic."

Cllr John Harbour, executive member for housing and environment, said: "This year's Towneley Firework display was a great success and is a safe and great value way for local families to enjoy a fantastic firework display."

Jacquie Baldwin, lead organiser of Accrington Cricket Club's bonfire night, said: "We spent all day Friday and Saturday building the bonfire from donations of wood from local companies.

"It was a mammoth task but paid off on the night.

"The crowd really seemed to enjoy the fireworks and many gave us compliments on their way out."

Longridge resident Ian Wilson, who visited the Clitheroe Community Bonfire & Fireworks Display, said: "It was a really really good event.

"It was a little bit chilly on the night, but the fireworks were amazing."
