A congregation from the Ribble Valley has twinned with a church in East Africa and is sending a team out to work with the local community next month.

A group of 11 representatives from St James' Church, St James Street, Clitheroe - the 'Eldoret Eleven' - will fly out to spend a week at King’s Highway Church and School in Kenya.

The Clitheroe school will be involved in helping set up a cyber cafe as well as leading special groups for local women and young adults.

Team leader, Mark Dyer, said: "It’s a real partnership. Members of the church in Eldoret have a dynamic faith in God, and that shows itself clearly in the way they face life in 21st Century Kenya.

The funds for this initiative will be raised mainly at a charity auction, to be held at St James’ Church on Saturday 30th September at 7.30pm.

Mr Dyer added: “We are looking for unwanted Windows laptops, which will be wiped and factory reset before they are taken to Kenya.

"We are also looking for unwanted Premier League football shirts. English football is very big in Kenya!”

Donations of items, or offers for the auction, can be made by contacting the church on 01200 423608 or admin@stjameschurchclitheroe.co.uk
