PRINCE Charles will be visiting the Ribble Valley next week for the first time in 14 years.

The Prince of Wales will arrive in Clitheroe on Tuesday, March 21 for a tour of the town.

He will arrive at the railway station and chat to business owners and traders who regularly take part in the popular Clitheroe Food Festival.

Road closures will be put in place from 7am, including in Castle and King Street, Lane, and New Market Street to the car park.

Cllr Stuart Hirst, leader of Ribble Valley Council, said he was excited for the royal visit.

He said: “The royal visit is a tremendous opportunity to showcase what Lancashire and Ribble Valley has to offer and builds on the success of our annual food festival.

“It will a great chance for him to meet with those who make the growing festival great.

“One of our top priorities is to show off the areas going reputation for good quality foods and services.

“It is another exciting day in Clitheroe’s diary.

“I hope everyone will turn out next Tuesday to welcome the Prince of Wales to Clitheroe.”

The heir to the throne's last East Lancashire tour was when he joined The Queen and Prince Philip on a visit to the Weavers’ Triangle regeneration site in Burnley in 2012.

From 6am, parking will not be permitted in Moor Lane, Castle Street, King Lane taxi rank, King Street, Market Place and New Market Street, as far as the car park.

At around 9.45am Moor Lane and Parson Lane will also be closed

Railway View Avenue will be access only from Railway View Road.

It is anticipated that normal service will return around 11.30am, although Castle Street which will remain closed until early afternoon.

The prince, 68, will also visit BAE Systems Academy for Skills and Knowledge in Samlesbury.

He will meet staff, students and school children while exploring the facility.

There will be a variety of workshops for the prince to take part in, as well as taking part in the virtual reality cave.

A council spokesman said: “Please can all businesses and shop owners make sure all deliveries are re arranged during these times to accommodate the operation."
