MORE than 400 music-lovers enjoyed a sold-out charity concert.

The gig at The Grand in Clitheroe was packed to its rafters to help raise money for Alder Hey Children’s Charity.

The second Hey Clitheroe concert raised more than £6,500, an increase of £1,000 from last years event.

Talented acts such as Good Foxy, The Ragamuffins, The Ruby Tuesdays and Drop the Floor took to the stage as part of a five hour entertainment extravaganza.

The charity was chosen after it supported family members of one of the association co-founders.

Derek Russell’s granddaughter, Lillian, died of a heart condition when she was just six days old in 2004.

Mr Russell said the concert was nothing short of a success.

He said: “What a fantastic night for everyone.

“We thought it would be difficult to top last year but I think we did just that.

“To sell out at The Grand again was an unbelievable achievement and I don’t think anyone who was there was disappointed.

“We wanted to give everyone the chance to dance the night away.

“What struck me was everyone had a smile on their face, this was exactly what we had been hoping for.”

A video of the charity’s work with children with life changing illnesses was broadcast during the night.

More than £1,750 was raised through a raffle and Barclays Bank had agreed to match fund up to £1,000 of the money, as it did for last year’s concert.

Around 90 prizes were given out on the night.

Mr Russell said: “I think the DVD really brought it home to people what a wonderful place Alder Hey is and the incredible job they do.

“It will always be special to my family, but it’s not just for us, there are many families who had benefitted from their outstanding work. I must say a huge thank you to all the businesses who donated gifts.

“There could be a Hey Clitheroe concert in 2018, everyone must watch this space.”
