THE sun shone down on Clitheroe as it’s annual food festival was declared a ‘roaring success’.

Tummy’s across the town were filled with different types of delicious treats.

From sizzling sausages to chunky chutneys, thousands of people filled Castle Street and the surrounding areas to get a taste of what was on offer.

Young and old licked their lips over seafood, huge pizzas and deep filled pies.

Clitheroe market was awash with stands, stalls and marquees, showboating sugary and savoury snacks.

The popular children’s ‘Culinary Food Academy’ returned to give youngsters the chance to become mini master-chefs.

Food demonstrations took place throughout the day, including a Royal Academy of culinary Arts session took pace at St Mary’s Centre in Church Street.

A healthy fast food interactive cooking workshop took place in the Committee Rooms in the Ribble Valley Council chambers.

Ailsa Baxter, who was flipping sausages at the Clitheroe-based Cowman’s Famous Sausage Shop stall, said: “The festival is fantastic for everyone in the town.

“We benefit from it massively, we get a lot of customers who come and try our sausage at the festival and then come back for more.

“It’s great to see everyone out and about and being brave and trying new things they wouldn’t normally do. Businesses reap the benefits from the day, it’s a really great event.”

Ribble Valley’s own super-star, Grace Davies, took to the Castle Street stage and sung a variety of jazz songs.

Coffee lovers had the opportunity to try a variety of different drinks at a Exchange Coffee in Wellgate.

Joyce Farnworth, 83, originally from Nelson but has lived in Clitheroe for seven years, said: “The festival was definitely a roaring success.

“It’s been wonderful to see all the different types of food on display, there’s so many that it’s hard to pick one out as my favourite.

“I enjoy the festival because it’s such a unique and wonderful event, holding it in Clitheroe makes it even better.”

Food-lover Jennie Sutcliffe, 91, from Clitheroe, said: “The weather really helped today, the sun was out and the sky was blue, which makes a big difference.

“I enjoyed the jams and chutneys the most, but there’s something for everyone at this event.”
