A FINE wine expert has been sworn in as the new Ribble Valley mayor.
Chipping councillor Simon Hore, who has been involved in local politics for four years, took on the role at a council ceremony in Clitheroe, yesterday.
The 54-year-old, who has lived in Chipping with his wife, Grace, and daughter, Lindsay, for 23 years was born in Surrey and is the elder of identical twins.
He has worked in the wine and spirit industry for more than 35 years and married Grace in 1980 after they met working for the same Scotch whisky bottling company in Edinburgh.
They moved to Lancashire in 1988 after Coun Hore was appointed managing director of a wine and spirit bottlers in Preston, and he currently works for a firm in Ribchester.
The keen bellringer became a trustee of the new Chipping and District Memorial Hall charity in 1999.
Over the next year he will hold fundraisers for respite care charity Crossroads Care and Macmillan Cancer Support.
