AN Iron Age roundhouse is to be built at a Ribble Valley tourist attraction.

Plans for the structure at the Bowland Wild Boar Park in Chipping were given the go-ahead by planning chiefs at Ribble Valley Borough Council.

The proposed building, which will be an additional attraction at the park which provides walks and children’s activities, will be constructed using woven tree branches to the sides and a thatched roof.

The round house at the park will be a replica of one built in approximately 200AD, when most of the Celts who were farming under the Roman occupation, converted to living in Roman style housing.

It will contain a bed built as a platform off the ground with a layer of skins covering a hay mattress.

There will be a oven built from clay in a dome shape and storage pits will be dug out in the floor and lined with baskets.
