A RIBBLE Valley school is still closed today due to flooding at the weekend.

St Augustine’s RC High School in Billington was closed to years 7, 8, 9 and 10 on Monday while the damage was assessed.

The school re-opened for years 7, 10 and 11 on Tuesday, but is still closed to years 8 and 9 due to the loss of teaching rooms.

Football matches were also cancelled on Monday.

A statement on the school’s website said: “Site staff and contractors have been working to make the site safe and clean up the corridors, stairwells and classrooms affected by the water damage.

“School will be open for Years 7, 10 and 11 on Tuesday.

“Unfortunately due to the loss of teaching rooms and restricted access around the site Years 8 and 9 will not be able to attend.

The school suffered major damage due to the burst internal main.

“While we appreciate the disruption that this closure will cause, our over-riding responsibility is the health and safety of children.”
