ENVIRONMENTALLY friendly outfits lit up the catwalk as creative students showed off their designs.

Pupils from St Augustine’s RC High School, in Billington, had been given the brief of designing clothes and accessories that recycled and re-used items that would otherwise be thrown away.

With skirts made from plastic cups, newspaper frocks and bottle top jackets, headteacher Michael Wright said the students had really pushed the boundaries.

He said: “This was a wonderful evening which showcased the talent and creativity of our pupils. Lancashire has an excellent reputation for textile design and fashion, and the eco-fashion show provides an opportunity to consider design in a sustainable manner.”

Dozens of quirky outfits showcased the design skills of the pupils who gave up lunchtimes and spent time after school on the project.

As well as designing and making the outfits, pupils also modelled their creations on the catwalk.

The fasion show producer Sarah Silcock said she was delighted with the event.

She said: “The pupils have spent hours and hours producing some fantastic pieces.”
