Clitheroe cancer survivor completes cycle on 42 islands

A CLITHEROE man who beat cancer has returned from completing another gruelling fundraiser.

West Bradford estate agent Bill Honeywell, 59, and pal Richard Dugdale, 67, managed to cycle on 42 Scottish islands in just 30 days.

The Ribble Valley pair tackled the Hebrides in aid of the Rosemere Cancer Foundation, and Cancer Research UK.

Bill has been a prolific fundraiser since beating testicular and bowel cancer in 1999, cycling 4,400 miles around the British coast last year, and climbing all 214 of Wainwright’s Lake District fells in 2009.

Many people on the islands had heard about the trip and provided Bill and Richard with free accommodation.

But they had to abandon plans to visit the Isle of Raasay because gale force winds cancelled all ferries.

Bill is raising money in memory of his friend Margaret Watkins, who died from breast cancer in 2008.

This is really excellent news and I take my hat off to Bill and Richard for their magnificent trip.

One thing though, the reporter should keep his opinions on the effort put in to himself. 'Gruelling' to one person is a walk in the park to someone else so please stick to the facts and keep your subjective views on the difficulties to yourself.
