FIVE taxis were found not to be up to scratch in a spot check.

Clitheroe police officers together with Ribble Valley Council carried out a joint operation on March 9 which was aimed at taxi safety.

In an attempt to make sure taxis in the area are well maintained and operating legally, vehicles were stopped and directed to the Clitheroe interchange where the Vehicle and Operator Service Agency and taxi licensing officers were.

One of the taxis stopped was issued with an immediate prohibition notice which means the vehicle was immediately taken off the road.

A further four were issued with delayed prohibition notices which means they have 10 days to get breaches rectified.
