A COUNCIL's first economic development meeting is set to take place today.

Ribble Valley Council set up a new economic development committee, which will be headed by a new planning and economic development director, Cllr Rupert Swarbrick, back in July.

The committee, which will meet every two to three months, is tasked with considering and propose matters concerning the promotion of economic development throughout the Borough and the interface with countywide or regional economic development initiative.

Councillors will meet to discuss various items which include an update on Fibre Broadband services, its availably, and future proposals for further rollout in the Ribble Valley.

There will also be an update on employment land within the borough and to discuss whether there is sufficient

employment land provision in the area in order to facilitate employment and economic investment in the borough.

The first draft Ribble Valley Tourism Destination Management Plan (DMP) will also be discussed at the meeting.

The purpose of the discussion will be to inform the new committee about the nature and scope of the work undertaken in stimulating tourism growth.

Once this item has been considered by committee will be circulated to the Ribble Valley Tourism Association and its members for comments, and then reported back for final approval by this committee.
