A FLAGSHIP homes development for elderly residents has opened its doors.

A total of 19 two-bedroom rented homes for the over-55s are now available in Billington as part of the Housing our Ageing Population Panel for Innovation (HAPPI) project.

The Elker Meadows scheme has been developed by St Vincent’s Housing Association with support from Ribble Valley Council and the Department of Health.

Colin Hirst, the council’s head of regeneration and housing, said: “The provision of affordable housing for older residents is one of the biggest challenges facing the council and these apartments are ideal for those looking to downsize.

“This flagship development is one of the best of its kind and has brought much-needed high-quality accommodation for older residents to Ribble Valley.”

The properties feature easy-access parking, storage facilities, individual balconies, a communal lounge, shared garden and allotments, and private courtyards.

They area also energy-efficient and have high levels of natural light and green space.

Organisers behind the scheme have warned that only a few properties remain.
