A SERIES of special events are to be staged at Clitheroe Market.

Farmers’ markets featuring the best local produce will be held monthly from this month on the second Thursday of each month.

Artisan markets featuring a range of handcrafted produce and fancy goods will be held on the first Saturday of each month from May.

A series of specialist markets dedicated to specific produce will be held on dates throughout the spring and summer, while flea markets will be held every Friday.

Heather Coar, Ribble Valley Borough Council’s head of environmental services, said: “We are aiming to boost footfall to the market even further by hosting a series of dedicated markets.

“Recent studies show that markets contribute to social interaction and community regeneration, but over the past decade they have been experiencing significant decline across the UK.

Up to 30 stalls will be available at the Friday flea markets for the sale of second-hand goods, bric-a-brac or collectibles for £5.60.
