PRIMARY schools have been encouraged to take part in the Royal Mail’s Christmas Stamp Competition 2017.

Nigel Evans, MP for the Ribble Valley, has written to the headteachers in the area.

This year’s theme is ‘What does the Christmas season mean to you?’

Mr Evans said: “The Royal Mail Christmas stamps are quintessentially British and are what really signal Christmas for me.

“It would be a fantastic prize for a child to have their design picked as the winner.

“This is why I am encouraging as many Ribble Valley schools to take part as possible.

“Sending letters and cards by post is an art which has suffered over recent years and I think this is a great shame.

“Receiving a physical Christmas card is a treasured experience and one which I wouldn’t want to become rare.
