In the programme, which aired on Tuesday night, the area scored highly across the board when looking at factors considered most important for young adults such as wages, house prices, wellbeing and accessibility.

The show commissioned Dr Alasdair Rae, senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield, to look at the latest Office of National Statistics data for 391 areas across the UK comparing nine aspects which were weighted differently depending on how important they are to young people.

Housing affordability was the most critical aspect, followed by the proportion of people aged 20-29 in the area, life satisfaction, happiness and the number of jobs.

Big companies have also seen the potential in the borough, making it home to a the large BAE systems plant.

Adjoining South Ribble was placed at number one on the list.

This was thanks to its £157,000 average house price and thriving jobs market.

Also in the top five were Warrington, Blaby, Copeland and Cheshire.

London was judged the worst place to move.
