A SCALE model built exactly how a village street would have looked in 1870 is to be the centrepiece of Whalley’s Pickwick Festival next month.
Jean Lord, 74, a local historian, has created a model of King Street after finding maps from the time.

The painstaking work, which used materials such as cardboard boxes and other recycled materials, has been on display in the old grammar school during the Whalley history exhibition in October half term.
It next be on display on Thursday, December 3, at the Whalley Pickwick Festival, which of course takes place in King Street.
Jean, a member of the village history society, said: “I came across a map dated 1870 which detailed all the properties on King Street and who lived in them.
“It was commissioned by a colonel who lived in Whalley abbey at the time and gave a perfect footprint for my model.
“I spent time on Google Earth finding out the number of doors and windows of the buildings.
“There are many of the same buildings but some differences, for instance the Methodist church was only built in 1872 and there were cottages where the bus station now is.”
The Victorian-themed Pickwick Festival will take place between 6pm and 9pm.
