A SERIES of road closures in the Ribble Valley and Pendle have been announced for when the Aviva Tour of Britain rolls into town next month.

The second stage of this years race will take place in the two boroughs on Monday, September 7.

Roads in Clitheroe and Colne will be closed during the day and there will be rolling road closures along the 154km route.

Residents and businesses have been asked to adjust their travel arrangements and appointment systems, and reschedule deliveries, to avoid delays and congestion.

Farmers on the route are asked not to move livestock on the morning of the race and movements will not be possible during rolling road closures.

Organisers are also asking farmers to ensure that none of their livestock stray onto the route, especially on downhill sections where the cyclists will pick up speed. Schools and businesses have been informed, and parents are asked to allow extra time for their school run.

A spokesman for Ribble Valley Borough Council said: “Much of the route in Ribble Valley and Pendle will be subject to rolling road closures.

“This means that the road will close as soon as the first police vehicle goes past, followed by the peloton.

“It will open again once the last police vehicle passes.

“The rolling road closures could be in place between 20 minutes and an hour depending on how big a distance there is between riders.”
