Since it began, the festival has attracted thousands of music fans to the site near Sawley and seen international artists through to East Lancashire-based performers wow the crowds.

This year the punters were entertained by Dreadzone and Eat Static who both appeared at the very first running of the festival.

Dancefloor groovers Basement Jaxx were Friday’s headliners while folk-rock heroes The Levellers took the Sunday slot along with legendary New York hip-hoppers Sugarhill Gang.

Set across a dozen stages, some buried in the Sawley woods, the Beat-Herder arts gurus built an old Victorian street, (Quality Street) complete with functioning bookshops, sweetshops and a barbers to get that essential festival haircut.

New additions last year included a swimming pool in the woods, housed in a Scandinavian-style wooden cabin, and The Ring – a huge earth mound with a Stonehenge style entrance.

Co-organiser Nick Chambers said: “When Basement Jaxx performed on Friday night the whole place was jumping.

“The atmosphere was amazing and this year was definitely as successful as previous years.

“You can see that the people who have never been before had a great time exploring the whole site and finding out what this festival is all about.
