PEOPLE have until Tuesday, July 7, to send their views on whether the Royal Lancashire Show should be granted a licence before it returns in August.

The organisers of the event announced last year that they intended to bring it back for the first time since 2012.

A licensing application has been submitted to Ribble Valley Borough Council seeking permission to stage live music, play recorded music, provide entertainment and sell alcohol.

The council will also decide whether to grant the requested opening times over the four-day show.

If the application is approved the show will be staged on land near Salesbury Hall from Thursday, August 6.

The show, to be held by the Royal Lancashire Agricultural Society, will return to the tried and tested showground at the hall at the invitation of Colin Mustoe, owner of the hall.

The event is the oldest show of its kind in the country, having first been held in 1767, but has been beset with troubles since 2006, the last time a full event was put on.

Thousands of people are expected to visit the show later this summer which will feature a motorbike and quad bike stunt show, dressage, crafts and a sheep show.

There will also be a shire horse agricultural display, ferret facing, chainsaw sculpting, and army village and a fashion show.
