WHALLEY residents have been called on to help support the village's bid to win the Lancashire best Kept Village competition.

The drive by the Whalley and District Lions are asking volunteers to meet at 10am every Saturday until the end of July in the Spar car park to help clean up the village.

A spokesman said: "There are specific areas of the village that will be judged such as the library, war memorial, parish church, village hall, Vale Gardens andGreen Park.

"Shops and local businesses have agreed to support the event to include Cosgroves, Whalley Wine Shop and The Swan Inn.

"Judging will be June and July with any awards presented in September.

"Whalley Parish Council is greatly in support of this years efforts and will aid in making local improvements."
