CLITHEROE residents have until Thursday to have their say on a series of proposals by budget supermarket chain Aldi.

The company has applied to Ribble Valley Borough Council for an alcohol licence for its new store in the town.

It wants permission to sell alcohol for consumption off the premises between 7am to 11pm, Monday to Sunday.

It is also bidding to be allowed to be open from the same times on the same days.

Construction has already started in Clitheroe on new store which is set to create around 50 jobs.

The £5million development, at the former Barkers Garden Centre site in Whalley Road, was given the green light by the council last year.

It is expected that the project, at the site which has been vacant since the garden centre was closed in 2003, will be completed before the end of the year.

Barnfield Construction, on behalf of developers Rawdon Investments Limited, will build the 16,300sqft Aldi supermarket and the 6,000sqft Pets at Home store alongside around 90 parking spaces.

Residents have until Thursday, June 25, to send their views on the licensing application to the council before a decision is made.
