SOME of the finest foods and artisan products in Europe were up for grabs at Clitheroe Market over the Easter weekend.

The market hosted an international market and Easter Extravaganza from Thursday, April 2, to Saturday, April 4.

More than 20 stalls selling a range of fine foods and artisan items, including African art, Balkan jewellery, French pastries, German sausages, Italian scarves and a Polish barbecue, came to town during the three-day bonanza.

Ribble Valley Borough Council’s head of regeneration and housing, Colin Hirst, said: “Clitheroe is famed for its independent retailers, while the Ribble Valley Food Trail and Clitheroe Food Festival attract thousands of shoppers and food enthusiasts to the borough every year."

Clitheroe has hosted a regular market since the Norman Conquest in the 12th Century.

More than 80 stalls now sell fruit and vegetables, bread and cakes, fish and meat, clothing and lingerie, pottery and craft items, curtains and fabrics, rugs and household textiles, flowers and electrical goods.

It is also home to a number of specialist food traders, including Ferguson’s Deli, which is featured on the Ribble Valley Food Trail, and legendary fruit and veg stall Burney’s.

It is the third year that Clitheroe Market has hosted an international market.
