WITH plans to welcome three new members into the fold at its next meeting, the Clitheroe Round Table is set to become the joint 10th largest club in Britain.

As the group approaches its 57th anniversary the club boasts more than 20 members and is aiming to attract more over the coming months to move into the top five.

With over 400 clubs nationwide across the UK and Ireland, the association of Round Tables is a club for men aged 18 to 45 that focuses on socialising and community projects.

The Clitheroe group is known for its participation in the town bonfire, the Christmas Santa Sleigh and commitment to raising funds for local causes.

Craig Nicholls, 40, who has been a member of the round table for 12 years, said: “We are all really pleased that we have managed to attract so many people to join the group.

“It’s a place where it’s really easy to find common interests with the other members and we have a great time socialising and doing community projects as well.

“We have just come off the back of a really successful Santa tour in December which raised £5,000 for good causes.

“Since I have been a member, the number has dropped to around 15 but we launched a recruitment drive and it’s great that we have got 14 new members in the last two years.”

Clitheroe Chairman Chris Harrop said that he was over the moon with the membership figures and now has his sights set on a position in the top five.

With over 100 men signing up in January alone across the country, Cait Allen, chief executive of Round Table, said: “Across the UK, men are taking the plunge by coming along to one of our meetings and having loads of fun.

“With ‘Free February’ we are taking away all the cost barriers so there are no excuses not to go for one night out.

“We’re incredibly pleased with the progress of Clitheroe and it is testament to the hard work everyone puts in to planning their activities.

“There will be men in Clitheroe who are missing out on being part of the best young men’s club in the world though, so they should drop us a line as soon as possible.

“They won’t regret it.”
