ALMOST 200 runners braved the rain to take part in Hurst Green’s annual Turkey Trot.
The five mile multi-terrain run left from the Bayley Arms in Hurst Green on Sunday and followed a scenic route through the Ribble Valley.
The athletes took the opportunity to join in with the festive fancy dress theme, donning a variety of colourful costumes, from Christmas trees and puddings, to reindeer and turkeys.
A fantastic 197 seniors finished the run, which raises money for Hurst Green Village Hall, and there was also a Santa Express festive fun run for juniors.
David Rigby from Preston Harriers was first to finish with a time of 30minutes and 21 seconds, with Matt Nuttall of Blackburn Harriers second and Ben Hobson from Chorlton Runners in third.
International Elizabeth Greenwood from Blackburn Harriers took the women’s top spot, finishing in 33 minutes and 32 seconds, with Lindsey Brindle from Horwich RMI Harriers second, and Caitlin Rice from Glossopdale Harriers in third.
The event was organised by Blackburn Harriers member Chris Barnes.
He said: “It went really well, the wet weather didn’t put us off.”
