FORMER footballer and England manager Kevin Keegan visited Ribble Valley’s Stonyhurst College to talk to them about his faith and successful sporting career.

He talked to a large audience in the College Chapel about his time at Liverpool, Hamburg, Newcastle and various other clubs.

A member of the organisation Christians in Sport, he also talked about his faith and how it had sustained him through challenging times.

Mr Keegan described his first steps into professional football, telling the audience how he had been told he was not good enough to join his local boys' team.

This made him determined to work harder and get better so that he could go on in football to achieve his dream.

He said: “Nobody will give you something for nothing. You have to work harder than everybody else to make sure you get what you want.”

Kevin posed for photographs and signed autographs on paper, football shirts, school ties and even a pupil’s arm.

His message – always try to do your very utmost in every situation you find yourself in – was inspiring.
