SIX people were injured in a 11 vehicle horror crash on the M6 motorway in Lancashire.
Police said the crash which involved seven cars and four HGV lorries happened close to junction 29, near Leyland, at about 1.40am this morning .
One HGV driver had to be cut out of the lorry by firefighters.
Police believe none of the injured suffered life-threatening or life changing injuries.
Both the north and southbound carriageways were closed between junction 27 and 29 but police hope at least two lanes will be opened in each direction later this morning.
The cause of the crash, on the northbound carriageway, is still unknown.
The southbound side of the motorway was also closed to help emergency services remove casualties.
Ten fire crews including appliances from Chorley, Blackburn and Darwen attended the incident which was declare a ‘major incident’ due to the number of vehicles involved.Police said the person rescued from the lorry was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment while the other five casualties were taken to Wigan Infirmary.
On Friday night seven people were killed and more than 50 injured in a crash on the M5 in Somerset.
