A prisoner is suspected of taking his own life just a day after being jailed for two years for arson.
Kieron Gray, 42, from Blackburn, was jailed for two years at Preston Crown Court on Thursday after being found guilty of arson with intent following a trial.
He was found with injuries at HMP Preston yesterday morning and pronounced dead in hospital in the early afternoon, the Prison Service said.
No details were given for cause of death.
Gray was not on suicide watch, a Prison Service spokesman said.
He had reportedly started a fire in a flat he shared with his partner in Blackburn, at 2am on New Year's Day last year after she ended their relationship.
A Prison Service spokesman said: "HMP Preston prisoner Kieron Gray, 42, was found with injuries at 10.17am on Friday August 26.
"He was transferred to outside hospital but was pronounced dead at 1.08pm.
"As with all deaths in custody the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation."
