Police commissioner hopeful 'snubbed by chief'

A CANDIDATE for the role of Lancashire police and crime commissioner has said he feels he has been ‘snubbed’ by the chief constable.
Kevin Horkin has expressed his disappointment at the cancellation of a meeting with Steve Finnigan, which had been arranged so that he could introduce himself and discuss complaints he had received about policing.
Mr Horkin said: “I’m very disappointed. The new role of police and crime commissioner is all about working closely with the chief constable and holding him to account.
“Now I’ve had the door closed in my face. So much for a spirit of openness and co-operation.”
He added that he felt let down by bureaucracy and red tape.
A letter from Miranda Carruthers-Watt, chief executive of the police authority, explained it was ’not appropriate’ for the chief constable to meet with any of the candidates in advance of their briefings, which are due to take place next month.
