THE Unite union’s local authority members are forming a ‘war cabinet’ to help fight job and service cuts across the North West councils.
Representatives from the region will come together today at the Liner Hotel, Lord Nelson Street, Liverpool. The meeting will determine a battle plan against another proposed round of cuts revealed by Chancellor George Osborne last week.
Unite North West regional secretary Mick Whitley said: “The Tory chancellor is set on cutting more jobs and services – and we have to fight this head-on to stop these cuts in frontline services to our communities throughout the North West.
“This is about survival and mobilising communities.
“Our members are those communities – cleaners, cooks, refuse collectors – who work harder for less to maintain vital community services.
“The North West has already been hit disproportionately by the cuts imposed by this ConDem government. “The cuts must stop now. “This meeting is the start of a unified campaign.”
