TRAWDEN Garden Festival will go ahead, thanks to thousands of pounds of funding from Pendle Council.

Organisers of the festival, which featured open gardens and dozens of scarecrows made from recycled materials, put in bid for £3,000 to run it next year.

The Colne commitee approved the bid but agreed to send a letter warning organisers not to expect 100per cent funding again.

Coun Alan Davies said: "I think we should be supporting it to make sure it takes place next year.

"It would be tragic if we lost an event of this size and importance which attracts people from all over the area.

"We do not normally fund such projects in full. Part and parcel of this is that they are aware they won't get the full amount in the future.

"The letter should make it clear that they should not expect to get 100 percent funding in future years."
