Children’s centre plan for Trawden

A LIFELINE is set to be thrown to village parents and youngsters with the arrival of a new children’s centre.

Plans have been unveiled for a new base in the former doctor’s surgery, beside Trawden Library in Church Street, as part of a £2million scheme being promoted by Lancashire County Council.

Work on the existing building would include creating a main community room, with toilets and a kitchen, and sharing an office and interview room with the library service.

A spokesman for Mellor Architects says in a planning report: “The library site offers existing accommodation which is currently unused, with good pedestrian access along routes well used and familiar to users.”

The architects say that there will be little difference in appearance for passers-by, with the majority of alterations occurring behind the main structure.

An outdoor play space, surrounded by hooped-top railings, would be provided behind the building, and a pram shelter installed.

The same initiative has seen four children’s centres opened in Nelson, in Maurice Street, Railway Street, Walton Lane and Barker-house Road, and similar facilities in Brierfield, Colne and Barnoldswick.
