TRAWDEN Show will go ahead next year despite fears over it clashing with the Royal Lancashire Show.

Organisers of the one-day event say they were concerned that exhibitors would be forced to chose between the events.

The show’s committee held an emergency meeting after it became apparent that the shows would be held over the same weekend.

But, despite not knowing if the clash will mean that some exhibitors may not be able to attend, organisers voted to go ahead on Sunday, August 9.

The show, which is held annually on the same weekend, is thought to be the biggest one day show in Lancashire.

The Royal Lancashire Show is being run on August 7 to 9 in Ribchester. The event is the oldest show of its kind in the country, but has been beset with troubles since 2006, the last time a full event was put on. In 2012 a reduced show was held in Witton Park, Blackburn.

Trawden show manager Barry Hodgson said: “It became apparent that we wouldn’t be able to change it as we already had a number of events arranged, such as the fell race, Pendle Grand Prix, the rare breeds and Colne Horticultural societies centenary show.

“The fields used for car parking were unavailable on the other dates suggested too.

“It is unfortunate that the dates have clashed. It’s just going to be a suck it and see situation.”

“We may lose some livestock such as cattle and sheep to the Royal Lancashire Show, but it is hard to tell at the moment.

“The organisers of The Royal Lancashire Show say they were tied into the weekend so unable to change it next year, but hopefully the following year it won’t be on at the same time.

“We are hoping that our exhibitors and visitors will be loyal and come and support us.”
