CHILDREN from a school acted out a hearing in a real courtroom as part of a scheme to learn about the justice system.

The Year Six pupils, from Salterforth Primary, took part in the dramatised court hearing at Reedley Court as part of Inside Justice Week and the Magistrates in the Community Primary School project.

And the whole display was witnessed by Burnley-born Shahid Malik, the newly appointed Justice minister and MP for Dewsbury.

Mr Malik said: “This is an informative and fun way of getting children to understand how their local courts work.

“I believe it is really important to open up our legal system and explain how it benefits ordinary people. I hope the experience helps the children better understand the consequences of crime and make the right choices as adults.”
