What is it about these particular schools that necessitated closure when others stayed open?

We need to be informed why these schools closed. Did the heating fail, was it too difficult for local children to walk to school or could it be that teachers live so far away that snowfall hindered their car journies?

or maybe their car journeys.

schools should be closed if weather is severely bad

Its simply safe for children, parents and teachers.

If people outhere haven't got kids or they dont want their kids to be safe or sick of their children then they must make alternative arrangments.

Last year hundreds were injured and i heard one girl died

School is to learn and if we are all o.k we can learn but if bad weather injures children / parents / teachers then it would be far worser then closing school for 1 day or 2 its nothing about cars, heating or other

well said ghanto! Yes a girl in Blackburn died last winter when she slipped outside her school. Very very sad. People who moan and whinge need to realise that safety is paramount. Why does it matter why schools close??? Headteachers, governors make the decision based on safety - I am a teacher and we gave our parents the option to collect their children from 2pm - the staff still had to attend a meeting after school closed at 3.15pm. It was the safety of the children and parents which was put first! Our school is on an unadopted lane which doesn't get gritted! Last year a van smashed into a car on it during the school run - fortunately no-one was injured. Other work places send their workforce home so why should schools be any different???
