Plans to convert former Nelson hotel

PLANS to turn a derelict Nelson hotel into a community centre and mosque are set to be approved this week.

Pendle Council officers have recommended that proposals for the old Groves Hotel, Manchester Road, should be given the go ahead.

Developers want to build the centre and mosque, along with four business starter units, in the grounds of the disused accommodation.

Town hall planners have received a petition of 45 signatures backing the application. Supporters say the plans would renovate the derelict site and the community centre would boost the area.

Officers have recommended planning permission is granted, subject to 13 conditions.

Councillors on the Nelson committee will meet at the town hall tomorrow from 7pm to discuss the application.

They will also look at a bid to turn a former workshop in Norfolk Street, Nelson, into an Islamic primary school.

Officers have backed the scheme in their report to members.

A representative from Lancashire police is also due to attend the meeting to update residents on incidents in Nelson.

Errr...excuse me? How dare you! My religion has been around for thousands of years. And just because i worship the dark lord doesnt make me or any of my fellow believers criminals.

I...believe in the dark Lord because it is HIS job to punish Murderers, rapists and other Criminals. SO WHY is that a bad thing?

Well Danny, Accistan apologies for judging you wrongly so please do accept my apology.Thankfully the 2 of us agree on one topic.What was the reason of going to Iraq and also hundreds of people have died in the process and hundreds injured and all what for? that the question that i would like to ask someone.And the 2 party that sent out the troops to Iraq are Tories and Labour and what for so in the future election i think that people should do the sensible thing and vote the party that was against the war this was Liberal Democrats.In the future if you vote for Liberal Democrats this party if it comes in to power will really benefit the member of the public and hopefully with the support of memeber of the public are troops can come out of Iraq.

SO PEOPLE DO THE SENSIBLE THING AND IN FUTURE VOTE LIB DEMS THAT PARTY THAT WAS AGAINST THE WAR.

All i said was religion was not for me. i SAID that the Americans might not be being "friendly" to the iraqi people. Danny, Accistan.First and foremost i would like to say that i dont agree with your comments and all comments are biased you should actually get to know people before discriminate them and their believes there is a meaning for all things carried out.We live in a multicultural society so there is no point comming out with these commments being biased and also causing problems i can say alot and discriminate others but am not like that and am not sad and i believe that eveyone has their own beliefs so you should respect that.

Yeah its nice, Da that we can actually have a topical discussion without all the hostility. I agree that the media can be biased too, especially this war on terror. Who knows what american soldiers are doing over there. No doubt they'll probs be under fire constantly by the militants...but i refuse to believe that they're being as "friendly" to the Iraqi people as they lead us to believe. Im also unsure as to what America's "TRUE" intentions of being in the middle east is anyway.

Dont get me wrong i have nothing against religion. I'm not a religious man myself, then again i wouldnt call myself an athiest either. I dont agree with religion because innocent people are killed around the world because of it. Whether it be christian, Jew, Hindu or Muslim. I just feel that there could be much more beneficial things we can do with these places. However if this is a re-location then i suppose its not as bad as i thought.

Hi danny good comment. I agree with you im an asian resident of nelson myself and do not agree to this mosque, what can I do to oppose this plan?? WE DONT NEED ANY MORE MOSQUES WHY BUILD THEM WHEN THE PLONKERS AINT EVEN USING THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE! I dont know what to do except just sit and watch petty people argue on the forums i guess! I dont want more pollution and busy times etc around my area...

Jav, who said i was trying to be funny, i was serious. And i dont care if you dont like my idea cos somewhere in the world this is happening and people are making money. Now you tell me, what is the point in building another mosque? Nelson isnt that big, why do you need more than 3? I'm from a town that has a mosque on every street corner more or less and what really twists nipples is when they play that loud incoherrent music ( ok not so incoherrent for muslims ) that is really annoying. Last time i checked, this is England. A nation that speaks english. So why is some dodgy arab guy babbling something ( which i might add could mean anything ) something over a loud speaker.
I can say the same about christians too, cos the equivalent to that is when some christian nutcase stands in the middle of town with a big **** cross telling us we're all gonna die.

So, in conclusion...i have nothing against muslims, Jews, christians or any other religion practising their faith in this country...but WHY on earth does there need to be more places of worship built when clearly there isnt a need.

Now, is that a acceptable comment, or will you call me racist or will you agree that i do have a point.

First of all I am in mixed opinion about this mosque. Woo hoo its right next to my house but secondly I dont like the group of people who are running it due to their views. I agree with alot of peoples views on here being an asian myself I think the community is smoking weed and making these decisions sometimes. **** and proud stop embarassing yourself nobhead learn how to spell wow you really know how to show us up. I wonder how many times you are actually attending a mosque if this issue is so dangerous to you a lecture is given from you spelt so awful! As for mrs pendle what you trying to hint eh? What a ridiculous idea - only the illiterate pakistani community of pendle can possibly think this is a good idea. Have you not seen the level of underachievement by young asian people in local schools - majority of them are third generation and cannot even speak english properly and am sure an alleged low quality faith school will do the trick??? There is already plan to have a muslim primary school next to an established primary school on norfolk street and the teachers there remove the eyes from all drawings - leaving the poor little kids confused. Come on this is not Islamic way - this approach of divide is the way of the illiterate muslims who go by customs and culture rather than the true aspects of islamic teaching. Am sure we will have the illiterate brigade on here soon makig all sorts of accusations, but they all will have one thing in common - illiterate and segregationists.

well actually da mosque has collected money and bought da hotel so dey have evey right to transform it into what they wish, and if your soo worried about pendle looking like pakistan then go and liv somewhere else. hav you even seen pakistan before you jump to concluions. as for burnley taxpayer you dont even live in nelson so why you so worried for. its actually a gud thing that dey building a faith based school because there isnt really one in nelson.
