FIREFIGHTERS were called to a large house fire in Nelson in the early hours of this morning.
The second floor of the property was 'well-alight' when crews from Nelson, Colne and Hyndburn arrived at the scene.
It happened at a house on the junction of Earl Street and Whitehall Street in Nelson at about 12.40am.
Crews used four breathing apparatus, two hose reels, positive ventilation, two triple extension ladders and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.
The fire service battled the blaze for around four and a half hours.
A fire service spokesman said: "At 12.38am, two fire engines from Nelson, one fire engine from Colne and one fire engine and the aerial ladder platform from Hyndburn attended the junction of Earl Street and Whitehall Street in Nelson.
"Firefighters found the second floor of an end terraced property to be well alight on arrival. "Crews used four breathing apparatus, two hose reels, positive ventilation, two triple extension ladders and thermal imaging camera were used to extinguish the fire.
"The fire service was in attendance for approximately four hours and thirty minutes."
