A CHARITY has said it is delighted to be shortlisted for 'Charity of the Year'.

Muslim Global Relief, based in Nelson, will be among the finalist at the British Muslim Awards being held in Bradford on Wednesday, January 31.

The charity operates in more than 40 counties around the world and has been listed in the final 10 candidates out of 500 applicants.

The international and relief organization works on humanitarian issues across the world.

The principal aims and objectives of the charity are the relief of poverty and sickness anywhere in the world, and in particular, those affected by natural causes or by wars and conflicts either foreign or domestic by the provision of financial or other potential assistance.

An example of the work they have done is in “Village Kousei Jingiri” in Ghana, where they have made a contribution to social welfare in the villages by providing them water and sanitation, education to children and a community mosque.

Mujahaid Bin Jamshaid, head of marketing and communications, said: "This is a proud moment and it will give us more strength and courage to spread our work.

"We hope that these awards bring recognition, increase incredibility and open the doors to future success of charities."
