A LORRY-LOAD of items have been donated to a children’s hospice by staff from Nelson and Colne College.

The donations have been collected for Derian House Children’s Hospice.

Care tutor Sue Hartley has been collecting items for the hospice since February half term.

The load, which is estimated will be worth hundreds of pounds, has been taken over to the hospice in Chorley and will be sorted before being sold in one of the hospice’s five shops.

Mrs Hartley said: “It is absolutely amazing how generous people have been, thank you very much for your donations.

“Derian House is a fantastic place and is such a worthy cause.

“I initially picked up eight bags to collect items when we visited the hospice before half term and they filled up very quickly so I thought I would carry it on.

“We have collected a huge amount of bric-a-brac in five weeks and it had taken up a large section of the staff room.

“ I’m now thinking about doing this every year around the time people will be having a spring clean.”

A spokesman for the college thanked Mrs Hartley.
