A 28-YEAR-OLD man poured a jug of water over his partner and told her to cool down during a heated row after she said she was leaving him.

Blackburn magistrates heard trouble flared again later in the day when Anthony Warren banged his partner's head on a kitchen unit and then grabbed her leg as she tried to run upstairs.

Warren, 28, of Hartley Drive, Nelson, pleaded guilty to two charges of assaulting Sarah Gentry. He was made subject to a community order with an eight week curfew between 9pm and 7am and a restraining order for 12 months.

He was ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

Enza Geldard, prosecuting, said Miss Gentry said the relationship had been in steady decline and things came to a head on a Sunday. She left the house after the first assault and when she returned he had gone to the pub. He came back in the evening and the argument continued.

At some point he grabbed her head and banged it against a kitchen unit.

"She managed to dial 999 on the landline and then tried to leave the room but he pushed her onto the sofa," said Mrs Geldard. "She broke free again and tried to run upstairs but he grabbed her by the leg and dragged her back down."

Phil Turner, defending, said Warren had cracked under the strain of the relationship breakdown.

He added that since the incident Warren had moved out of the family home although he was still paying the mortgage.
