BRITISH Waterways has promised to keep a closer eye on Pendle's canalsides, after a meeting with council officials.
A representative met Pendle Council after complaints about litter and a perceived lack of maintenance at the canalsides in Foulridge, Barrowford and Brierfield.
The agency agreed to look into problems of litter in the canal, overflowing bins in Foulridge and difficult disabled access to the canal at Barrowford.
Councillors also complained that dog waste bins at Barrow-ford Locks were not being emptied because it was so difficult to get to the site by car.
Members agreed to keep the pressure on British Waterways to keep the canals tidy, but also decided to encourage the area committees to arrange an annual litter pick of the canal towpath within their boundaries.
