A COMMUNITY scheme to clean up Foulridge is hoping to get off the ground.

Foulridge Parish Council is keen to set up a voluntary litter picking initiative, which gives villages their own section of land to care for.

Coun Graham Cannon said: “Pendle Council is the body mainly responsible for the up-keep of the village, but obviously there is only so much they can do.

“Already people collect rubbish and tidy up outside their homes or on the roads, which is great, but we were thinking of formalising the system.

“Everyone could do their own bit, whether it’s the width of a gate or whatever they feel comfortable with and think they can manage.

“The parish council will help people. We would provide them with yellow high visibility tops, litter pick-up sticks, and will give them general advice on health and safety, and how to get rid of the waste properly.

“The village is already quite good, but we would like to draw up enough people so we could have some proper system in place and get it looking even better.”
