A CAMPAIGN has been launched to stop a village pub opening until the early hours at weekends.

The Bay Horse Inn, Fence, has permission to open until 12.30am Monday to Thursday and 3.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.

But a group of residents has asked for a review of the pub’s licence.

Old Laund Booth Parish Council chairman Brian Newman, of Wheatley Lane Road, said: “The parish council is aware of it but we are not getting involved.

“I live very near the pub and it is getting out of hand. I think it has turned into a bit of a nightclub and it is in the wrong place for that.

“It is staying open until 2am and 3am, but it is in a residential area where people don’t want that.

“There is nothing wrong with the place – the food and service are great – so I do feel a bit sorry for the landlord because he has put a lot of effort into making a go of it.”

The pub has permission to stage live music events outside the premises until midnight, seven-days-a-week.

Music can be played inside the pub until midnight during the week and 3am on Fridays and Saturdays.

And staff are able to serve alcoholic drinks within those times.

Mick Armfield, Pendle Council’s licensing enforcement officer, said: “We received an application requesting a review of the premises on September 23.

“The request, by residents near the pub, raises concerns in relation to a number of issues including alleged breaches of licence conditions and noise nuisance. We are now into the 28-day objection period which ends on October 21.

“At the end of the objection period, a date for the licence review will be set.”

Mark Allen, who owns the pub, could not be contacted yesterday to comment.
