Fresh appeal to nominate Earby's exceptional young people
3:09pm Monday 18th June 2012 in Earby
A FRESH appeal is being made for people to nominate young people in Earby who have gone beyond the call of duty to help their communtiies.
Nominations were sought for the 2012 Shaw-Greening Award earlier this year but the response was muted.
The award, named after Dick Shaw and Alfred Greening, stalwart members of the former Earby Urban District Council, recognises those aged 16 to 25 who have succeeded in community or voluntary work.
Parish councillor Vera Cocker said: “History tells us that a lot of young people ‘don’t think they have done anything special’, when they have.”
Past winners include 2010’s recipient, Jessica Spence.
She juggled her studies at Nelson and Colne College with shifts at Earby Youth Club.
She showed her leadership skills from an early age in Brownies and later tried to form an Earby Youth Council.
People who are interested in making nominations can contact Coun Cocker oby calling the number 01282 842653.
